Timucin Cakaloz

Piece: Shaman

Timucin Cakaloz is a Turkish sculptor born in Erzurum, Turkey in 1967. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in the University of Mimarsinan in Turkey. Cakaloz has been involved in various symposiums and exhibitions throughout his career including, the 6th Alanya International Stone Sculpture Symposium in Alanya, Turkey, the 6th International Istanbul Stone Sculpture Symposium organised through the collaboration of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and Saraylar Municipality and held between Istanbul and Turkey, and the 11th International Prokonnesos Marble Sculpture Symposium organised through the collaboration of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and Saraylar Municipality and held between Marara and Turkey.

Global issues such as international politics and economics inspire Cakaloz's work, and he relies on mythology to portray these topics. Recent upheavals in the world have resulted in him working extensively on sculptures of boats inspired by Noah's arch carrying people away from disaster. For this symposium he is sculpting a shaman that provides the people with protection from evil. The use of iron fits well with this concept as the sound of banging on iron dismisses evil spirits in mythology.
