Rolandas Šmitas is a Lithuanian sculptor born in Šiauliai, Lithuania in 1967. Šmitas graduated from M.K.Čiurlionis Art School in 1985, and the Department of Sculpture in Vilnius Academy of Art, in 1993.
He is currently working in the Vilnius Academy of Art. Šmitas has participated in various national and international exhibitions throughout his career including, the International Woodcarving Symposium "Wood" in Voru, Estonia, the International Woodcarving Symposium in Schonfeld, Germany and the International Stone Symposium in La Chatre, France.
Šmitas usually work with marble and his work varies between abstract and figurative sculpture. He is inspired by dualism and aims to capture the polarity found in life and people. For this symposium he is sculpting a woman that is upside down embodying this concept.
