Mahmoud Minaysy is an Egyptian independent visual artist born in Alexandria in 1970. He is a member of the Syndicate of Fine Artists in Egypt and the Alexandria and Cairo Atelier in Egypt. He was the Curator, Commissioner and General Coordinator of both Projects "Exchange of modern and contemporary art" and "Utopia" in Egypt. Minaysy expresses himself through painting, sculpture, installations and video art.
In his work he uses metal scrap to recreate art, giving meaning and value to something that was going to waste. This concept was inspired by the ancient Egyptian's idea of afterlife and continuity. In his piece for this symposium Manaysy is using parts of an old vehicle and cement mixer to build a sculpture of Alexander the great who symbolises the freeing of nations and minds.
"I use waste materials in my art to give them new meaning and value"
