Ehab El Laban

Piece: Waraa' Meissatar

Ehab El Laban, born in the city of Cairo, Egypt in 1976 is an Egyptian curator and a cultural operator. He has participated in sculpture symposiums in Aswan, Romania and Kuwait, and helped organise the Abu Dhabi symposium. He has also held a solo exhibition in Cit International des Arts, Paris. His monumental sculptures are installed in Cairo, Alexandria, Aswan, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi.

As an independent sculptor El Laban creates contemporary figure sculptures and has lately taken an interest in the relationship between architecture and sculpting. His sculpture in this symposium is a figure made of sheets so thin they resemble paper. The paper signifies the difficulty of being pinned down and the flexibility of paper and its readiness to be carried by the winds. The paper sheets are also inspired by the paper signs held up during the Egyptian revolution by the peaceful protesters.
