 Piece: El-Horreya

Ahmed Al Sotouhy is an Egyptian sculptor born in Aswan, Egypt in 1942. He is also a professor at the Department of Sculpture in the Faculty of Fine Arts in Alexandria University and a member of the Artists and Writers Group in the Alexandria Atelier. Al Sotouhy was also the Chairman of the Artists Syndicate in Alexandria. Al Sotouhy believes that art is the channelling of thought and emotions in a structured manner. His work has revolved around capturing the human state with a focus on the struggles man goes through in life.

His contribution to this symposium is a figure combining the human body with birds of prey; he utilises the bird's senses in the human body to portray the severity of dealing with life.

"I call for art to not be treated as a complementary thing, for it is the essence of progression and the axis of civilisations"
