"For us, Cairo is one of the most interesting cities in the world to work in because it is part of the cradle of civilization. At Jerde, we design places that are inspired by their unique locations - their people, their cultures and their histories. Cairo is a rare place that combines history, culture and traditions with a willingness to shape the future. We are excited to design a place within Cairo's urban fabric that takes inspiration from the city's rich heritage to create a new promise for the future. At Jerde, we design projects for people first. This means that we take great care to study how people have used and want to use their cities to create a plan and design that will create new social and communal experiences and enhance their quality of life. We look forward to designing a new place for the people of Cairo, as we have in many cities around the world."

"Cairo is one of the largest, oldest metropolises in the world, and one embellished with a riche urban culture and unique architectural heritage! We are very pleased to join in the expansion and reshaping of this magical city. In its sheer size, and its privileged adjacency to the prestigious American University of Cairo, EASTOWN is poised to set new and dynamic standards for contemporary 21st century living. We will strive to establish an innovative and contemporary landmark community that is firmly rooted in an understanding of its unique culture. We believe that this approach will create a vibrant and sustainable urban destination that offers the best of both the global and local experience."
"Working in Cairo is an exciting new experience for me. My enthusiastic interest in Ancient Egypt never fades. However, today, with the EASTOWN project in Cairo we can expect to see a fine development of a massive scale, which will sit easily in its setting and people will hopefully embrace as an integral part of their daily lives"

Nabil Gholam was a senior partner at Ricardo Boller's Taller de Arquitectura. After seven years working in France, Spain, China and the United States, he set up NG Architecture and planning in Beirut in 1994 and in Barcelona in 2006. He will be collaborating on the residential area of Eastown.
Eastown will provide a quality of life that's increasingly rare in Cairo's dense neighbourhoods. It will combine community, nature and real needs of individuals. It will offer a new urban destination for rapidly growing population, with a full range of services for residents and companies who want a prestigious address in an urban landscaped environment.
It is a part of our task to ensure the vitality of community life. This is not just about their relationship between individuals, but also about how well individuals integrate with the building and natural surroundings. Our primary objective is to produce a sustainable and viable project that can thrive over years, decades and centuries. By balancing the demands of population density with access to open space we will ensure lasting success in an era of rapid change.
Sahel Al Hyari founder of Sahel Al Hayari and Partners in Amman, has lectured Jordan, New York and the U.A.E. He is responsible for the retail and leisure 'Hing' building where the four main districts meet: residential, commercial, Central Business District and Wist Al-Balad.
What is so exciting about this project is that it presents the opportunity of working within the context of the multi-layered and unique urban environment in Cairo. We hope to be able to draw upon and reflect the essence of Cairo in the development of Eastown. It presents another evolution in the changing face of the city.
The project also has the potential to show how a city can be vitalized through the use of public spaces. These spaces are not necessarily for shopping or commerce; they give a cultural dimension to city life.
