Cairo, December 16th, 2008 – Allegria, an exclusive residential development project created by SODIC, one of Egypt’s top developers, has recently received an award of merit for its master plan from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). The master plan was developed by world‐renowned master planners EDAW.
The award ceremony was held last month at the Center for Architecture in New York, and the award was received on behalf of Allegria by Matt Seybert of EDAW New York. SODIC is the first Egyptian company to receive this award, which recognized the unique landscape and environment of Allegria.
“It is an honor to win this award, but without creative clients we would not have great projects. Allegria is a community‐based project with an exceptional location and environment, and we are very grateful to SODIC for believing in us and being a fantastic client,” said Gus Robertson, who directs the design studio is EDAW’s New York office.
The American Society of Landscape Architects was founded in 1899 and is the professional association representing landscape architects in 42 countries worldwide. The ASLA annual awards are given in a variety of categories.
Allegria, developed by SODIC, is an upscale residential project located in West Cairo, on the Cairo‐Alexandria highway, and covering 2.38 million square meters. It includes beautifully landscaped green areas, a signature 18‐hole Greg Norman golf course and a 32,000 square meter clubhouse, as well as over 1,000 luxury villas and townhouses. The master plan of the Allegria project was designed by the New York ‐ based firm EDAW in association with the Egyptian Consulting House (ECH), and the residential units were designed by several distinguished local and international architectural firms. When developing Allegria, SODIC hired world‐class designers, architects and landscapers to ensure that it becomes one of Egypt’s most exclusive residential areas.
EDAW is one of the world’s leaders in the fields of landscape architecture, urban design and environmental planning. It was founded in 1939 and boasts hundreds of client and industry awards.
