Another programme implemented by Al Fanar and supported by SODIC, Shomoo was established in Minia in 2004. The organisation's mission is to work towards the provision of socio-economic, environmental, educational, health and civic rights of the communities in which it works. Strategic objectives include raising awareness of its target communities of basic rights, combating discrimination and violence against women, child protection in collaboration with social services institutions, income generation through micro-credit, environmental improvement through clean up campaigns, health improvement through improved access to reliable health services, provision of legal aid and increased access to education. Shomoo currently operates 25 illiteracy classes in 14 different villages in Minia with an average of 15 pupils per class. This programme has to date befitted more than 1500 people.
