FLDO, established in 2005, supports and empowers children, women and youth. The FLDO Early Childhood Education and Outreach Program is a joint effort between FLDO and Al Fanar. The program has established a model day care centre based on the Maria Montessori method of education to assist nurseries in deprived districts of Cairo to transform their services through the development of their teachers and curricula.
To date a total of 20 class teachers and 16 day care centres have so far been trained as part of the program in areas such as Deir El Malak, Ezbet El Nakhl, Madinet El Salam and El Khosoos.
FLDO also works with children's parents, specifically the mothers, to support them in improving their parental skills and developing a parent-supervisor relationship that will in the end benefit the children. There are also specific training sessions for the "dadas" or helpers who have no educatory role but are responsible for children's hygiene, food preparation and general cleanliness.
