Bashayer

Helwan Association for Community Development: Bashayer Training, Employment and Access to Health Care:

Bashayer was established in 1987 and has since instituted a variety of different programmes mainly centred on women in the district of Helwan. This programme supports a crochet and sewing women's cooperative production unit that employs over 300 women. SODIC helped Bashayer in their endeavour to train 50-60 women with the aim of improving their sewing skills, introducing new contemporary production lines and designs targeting the higher end of the market.

Bashayer also supports the operation and development of the health clinic at Arab Ghoneim that provides medical services to over 900 local members.  It also organises health caravans including medical specialists from various fields. The caravans serve communities of Arab Ghoneim, Helwan El Balad, Kafr El Elw, El Shobak, all marginalised slum areas that lack access to medical services.

In addition they raise the community's awareness about various health issues by holding awareness raising sessions for women and school age girls on subjects such as personal hygiene, prevention of blood transmitted diseases, prevention of food borne diseases, mental health of children and female circumcision and finally they will support one adult literacy class.
